Taitara Mahi - Health, Safety and Wellbeing Coordinator (Infrastructure)
Permanent Full-Time

Hastings District Council is delivering one of the most significant capital programmes in its history - driven by long-term growth, resilience, and recovery following Cyclone Gabrielle. With extensive works in progress, we're on the lookout for a Health, Safety & Wellbeing Coordinator, ideally with experience in an Infrastructure environment.

Alongside one of our Health, Safety & Wellbeing Partners, this role supports Council’s Infrastructure managers with the day-to-day coordination of Health, Safety and Wellbeing across operations. You’ll work alongside the team to engage with staff and contractors, assist with site visits and inspections, and help deliver practical training and coaching. It’s a hands-on role where you’ll build your experience while contributing to a positive and proactive safety culture.

This role is best suited to someone who has previous experience within the Infrastructure, Civil Construction or Construction sector. Please note, we are looking for someone with professional Health and Safety knowledge and experience - not someone who is looking to move into a Health and Safety career.

Note that this role has a rostered after-hours on-call requirement.

Ōu wheako – about you
To be successful in this role, you will:

  • Have a minimum of 2 years' experience in a Health and Safety Coordinator position or similar
  • Hold an NZISM recognised Practitioner Accreditation level qualification in Health and Safety, or be working towards this
  • Have great communication skills and the confidence to influence and engage with others
  • Have a solid understanding of risk management processes, audits, investigations, and reporting
  • Have a practical, hands-on mindset with a genuine commitment to health, safety and wellbeing

Situated in the heart of Ngāti Kahungunu, the Hastings district and Hawke’s Bay offer an enjoyable environment in which to live, work and play. We are an equal opportunity employer and we value diversity. Are you keen to be a part of our journey?
