Taitara Mahi - Projects Officer Public Spaces

Hastings District Council's Public Spaces & Buildings team is responsible for the planning, delivery, and maintenance of parks, reserves, playgrounds, and public facilities across Hastings. Working closely with contractors and our community, we ensure these spaces are safe, functional, and well cared for, helping to create places where people can connect, relax, and enjoy the district.

We’re looking for a proactive and skilled Project Officer to lead capital and renewal projects for buildings and public spaces identified in our Long Term and Asset Management Plans, including street upgrades, playgrounds and building renewal projects.

You’ll manage project delivery – ensuring compliance with Council policies and best-practice project management principles. The role also includes collecting and maintaining accurate asset data, preparing and evaluating tender documentation, and supervising contracts as the Engineer’s Representative.

Strong relationship building skills are essential, as you’ll work closely with internal teams, contractors, and stakeholders to achieve successful outcomes. If you’re organised, detail-focused, and motivated to make a positive impact in your community, we’d love to hear from you.

To be successful in this role, you will:

• Have a relevant qualification in Project Management or similar
• Have proven experience in civil and construction management and project planning
• Have proven project and contract management experience
• Have sound understanding and working knowledge of Civil standards, regulations and best practise.
• Have excellent customer service skills, alongside being able to communicate professionally, both in writing and verbally
• Be eager to work alongside the community to provide quality outcomes
