Ready to start your career and learn on the job? As Transportation Officer - Cadet, you’ll get paid real experience across our Transportation team, helping keep Hastings running. This is an awesome opportunity to learn from experienced engineers while you study towards an NZ Diploma in Engineering.
You’ll get involved across the transport network - supporting day-to-day operations, inspections, and maintenance of roads and cycleways, helping manage data, and working alongside contractors and engineers. You’ll assist with safety processes like traffic management and road closures, respond to community enquiries, create GIS maps, and contribute to projects from planning through to delivery - making sure everything runs smoothly, safely, and meets the required standards.

To be successful in this role, you will:
- Have solid maths and science skills (NCEA Level 2+).
- Be keen to study towards an NZ Diploma in Engineering.
- Be curious about how things are built and how infrastructure works.
- Be confident using a computer and quick to learn new tools.
- Be able to communicate well with different people—teams, contractors, and consultants.
- Be proactive, positive, and enjoy solving problems.
- Have a restricted driver’s licence and be happy to get out on site.
