Taitara Mahi - Project Manager
Permanent Full-time

Hastings District Council is delivering one of the most significant capital programmes in its history - driven by long-term growth, resilience, and recovery following Cyclone Gabrielle. We’re seeking experienced Project Managers to join our Infrastructure Group. In this dynamic role, you’ll lead the delivery of Transport (or Three Waters) projects that keep our district moving and thriving. You’ll coordinate activities across design, procurement, construction, and commissioning, ensuring schedules, budgets, risks, and quality requirements are tightly managed. A big part of your role will be maintaining clear communication between consultants, contractors, stakeholders, and internal teams, keeping everyone aligned and projects progressing smoothly.

You’ll bring strong organisational skills, attention to detail, and a proactive mindset to navigating complex infrastructure programmes. Experience in project management, contract administration (including NZS3910), and familiarity with project management tools will set you up for success. Whether it’s bridges, road safety upgrades, pipelines, pump stations, or treatment plant works, you’ll help turn planning into real-world outcomes.

We’re seeking Project Managers from a range of backgrounds and experience levels. Depending on the capability and expertise you bring, we can offer opportunities at Project Manager, Senior Project Manager, or Principal Project Manager level – matching competency with project complexity!

If you thrive in a collaborative environment and want to make a meaningful difference to the Hastings District, we’d love to hear from you. Join us and help deliver resilient, community focused infrastructure.

Ōu wheako – about you
To be successful in this role you will:

  • Preferably hold Bachelor level qualifications in Engineering, Project Management or similar disciplines
  • Have engineering and/or project management experience
  • Local authority experience would be advantageous
  • Be able to lead multi-disciplinary teams
  • Experience in managing challenging projects within 3 Waters OR Transport environments
  • Understand budgeting, risk, engagement and project delivery
  • Be a proactive leader who motivates others and builds strong internal and external working relationships

If you’re a confident communicator who thrives in a collaborative, delivery-focused environment and wants to make a tangible difference for the Hastings District, we’d love to hear from you.

This role is part of Infrastructure Group. The Group includes 3 Waters, Transportation, a Delivery Office and a Professional Services Panel.

Situated in the heart of Ngāti Kahungunu, the Hastings district and Hawke’s Bay offer an enjoyable environment in which to live, work and play. We are an equal opportunity employer and we value diversity. Are you keen to be a part of our journey?
