Taitara Mahi - Kaitiaki & Skate Park Guardian
Permanent Part-Time
Want to help keep Hastings and Flaxmere safe, welcoming places for everyone to enjoy? We’re looking for friendly, community-minded people to join our team as Kaitiaki, with another opportunity also available as a Skate Park Guardian.
In these roles, you’ll help create positive environments across Hastings District Council facilities by building good relationships with the community, supporting visitors and helping prevent anti-social behaviour. You’ll work closely with Council staff and the public to make sure our spaces remain safe, respectful and enjoyable for everyone.
We have multiple positions available, with each having different weekly hours. Our Kaitiaki roles are primarily based at the Hastings Library (30 hours per week and 25 hours per week) and Flaxmere Community Centre (35 hours per week), while our Skate Park Guardian role (18 hours per week) is based at William Nelson Park in central Hastings. All of our positions include regular weekend work.
You don’t need years of experience to apply — what matters most is your attitude, communication skills and ability to connect well with people. We’re looking for people who are approachable, reliable and confident speaking with a wide range of community members.
