Taitara Mahi - Tenancy Officer
Permanent Part-Time (20 hours per week)

For more than 60 years, Hastings District Council has provided affordable, safe and secure housing for seniors who may otherwise struggle to access suitable accommodation. Today, Council owns and manages ten villages across Hastings, Flaxmere and Havelock North, providing homes for more than 250 tenants.

We're looking for a compassionate, organised and community-minded Tenancy Officer to help support our tenants and ensure our senior housing villages continue to be welcoming, safe and well-maintained places to live.

In this varied role, you will:

  • Work with the team to manage tenancy applications, agreements, and occupancy to maximise housing availability
  • Monitor and manage rent payments, arrears, and tenancy compliance
  • Undertake property inspections and work alongside asset teams on maintenance and renewals
  • Provide mediation and help resolve tenancy issues
  • Coordinate village activities and foster positive community connections
  • Build strong relationships with health providers, social services, iwi and community organisations
  • Maintain accurate records and ensure compliance with relevant legislation

Ōu wheako – about you
To be successful in this role, you will:

  • Have a qualification, or equivalent level of demonstrated skills and experience, in social policy, health/allied health, community development, property management or related field.
  • Have a high level of knowledge of rental housing and property-related matters including Residential Tenancy Law would be advantageous.
  • Be able to focus on developing positive working relationships with tenants, staff and all external agencies.
  • Have analytical and organisational skills, presentation skills and Strong commitment to delivering a high level of service.
  • Hold a full driver licence.
