Taitara Mahi - 3 Waters Operations Engineer

Hastings District Council is looking for a switched-on 3 Waters Operations Engineer to join our Infrastructure Group. You'll play a hands-on role in supporting safe, reliable drinking water, wastewater and stormwater services across Heretaunga Hastings - the kind of work that quietly keeps our district running.
This is a varied role with plenty of moving part. You'll assess and coordinate 3 Waters service connection request, provide practical technical advice, support inspections and compliance checks and work closely with customers, developers, contractors and Council teams to ger things done.
- Keep connection applications moving by coordinating, assessing and approving 3 Waters requests
- Give clear, practical advice to customers, developers, contractor and internal teams
- Support inspections, audits and compliance checks so work is completed safely and to standard
- Help manage shutdown approvals and network interface matters
- Provide smart operational engineer support across 3 Waters service deliver
- Bring ideas that improve how we work, respond and support our community.
You'll be a practical problem-solver who brings sound technical judgement, strong communication skills and a genuine service mindset. You don't need to have all the answers on day one - but you will be confident working with standards, specifications and compliance requirements and willing to roll up your sleeves to find the right solutions.
Ōu wheako – about you
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- A Bachelor of Engineering in civil, environmental or similar discipline or significant relevant industry experience
- At least 5 years' experience in 3 Waters, utilities, infrastructure, engineering or a related field
- A solid understanding of drinking water, wastewater and stormwater reticulation systems.
- Experience applying engineering standards, specification, bylaws or regulatory requirements
- Confidence working with contractors, customers and a range of internal teams
- A practical, calm and organised approach, with an eye for details and a focus on good outcomes
