In this role, you’ll be one of the friendly faces welcoming both visitors and locals — sharing your local knowledge and imparting advice, making travel and event bookings, supporting tourism operators, and helping people make the most of their time in our district and across New Zealand.
What you’ll be doing
- Welcoming visitors and residents, and providing clear, helpful information in person, by phone and by email.
- Researching and sharing up-to-date information about local attractions, accommodation, transport, events and travel options throughout New Zealand.
- Making, changing and refunding bookings for activities, accommodation, transport and events.
- Promoting local tourism operators and driving sales and visits to these businesses.
- Customer service and sales advice for retail items, tickets and services.
- Supporting day-to-day administration for sales activity, customer records and other activity for monthly reporting
- Building your own tourism knowledge through training, familiarisations and ongoing learning.
What you’ll bring
- A genuine love of people and a friendly, approachable style.
- Great written and verbal communication skills and the ability to explain information simply and clearly.
- A desire and ability to sell (and up-sell) products, experiences and events
- Confidence using computers, including Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Customer service, retail, administration or cash-handling experience.
- Good local knowledge, a genuine passion for Heretaunga Hastings and Hawke’s Bay, with a desire to learn more.
- An interest and awareness of New Zealand travel to help grow and support New Zealand’s tourism industry.
- Reliability, initiative, resilience and a positive, can-do attitude.
- A tourism qualification or relevant industry training would be an advantage, but attitude and service mindset will be highly regarded.

The isite is open Monday to Saturday, and this role will be required to work weekends. The hours for the role will be discussed at interview as both full-time and part-time applications are welcome.
