HDC's Compliance team plays an important role in helping ensure development across Hastings District meets the requirements of resource consents, the District Plan and relevant legislation. From investigating complaints to carrying out site inspections and following up on outstanding consent conditions, the team works with property owners, developers and the wider community to support compliance and address issues when they arise.
We’re looking for a practical and organised Compliance Officer who can build positive working relationships, assess information and work through compliance issues with confidence and sound judgement.
Working as part of our District Development Group, you’ll help monitor resource consent conditions, investigate complaints and follow up on potential breaches of relevant legislation and planning requirements.
You’ll spend time out in the field carrying out site inspections and gathering information, as well as managing records, tracking outstanding compliance matters and helping determine the steps needed to resolve issues. You’ll also work closely with the Compliance Manager and wider team, including our planning and building colleagues.
This is a role where you’ll need to balance a helpful, solutions-focused approach with the confidence to address non-compliance and initiate enforcement action when required.

- Strong communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to navigate challenging conversations.
- Good analytical and organisational skills, with the ability to assess issues, manage competing priorities and maintain accurate records.
- Sound judgement and a fair, practical approach to resolving compliance issues.
