We are seeking an experienced and passionate Mana Whenua Coordinator to join our transportation recovery team. This role will be pivotal in facilitating engagement with Mana Whenua to support the delivery of the Cyclone Recovery projects across the district.

Your responsibilities in this role will include:

  • Facilitating effective engagement with Mana Whenua to support the delivery of the Transportation Cyclone Recovery Programme.
  • Acting as the main point of contact between the transport team, project managers, and Mana Whenua groups.
  • Coordinating Mana Whenua input into transportation repair work, including slips, culverts, bridges, and rebuild projects.
  • Working closely with the Transportation Community Liaison Officer, Pou Ahurea, and Community Connectors team to ensure a consistent approach.
  • Reporting to Heretaunga Takoto Noa Māori Standing Committee on engagement progress.
  • Maintaining accurate records within the case management system.

To be successful in this role, you will:

 

  • Relevant tertiary qualification and/or extensive experience in community development, engagement, planning, or a similar discipline.
  • Proven experience in project/program delivery and working within a Te Ao Māori setting.
  • Strong understanding and background in te reo Māori me ōna tikanga.
  • Ability to establish or maintain already established working relationships with Mana Whenua entities and other stakeholders
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Strong project management skills and experience in the transportation or construction sectors are desirable.
