Taitara Mahi - Waste Community Engagement Specialist

Hastings District Council’s Waste Team is responsible for delivering a significant programme of work to improve the way waste, recycling and resource recovery services are developed and delivered across the region.  As our Waste Community Engagement Specialist, you will work alongside a variety of partners to encourage waste minimisation. You’ll help create a range of engaging marketing and communications collateral and education tools critical to achieving the outcomes set out in Council’s Joint Waste Management and Minimisation Plan.

This role is part of Asset Management Group. The Group includes Solid Waste, 3 Waters, Transportation, Parks and Open Spaces. The role is an integral part of our experienced and driven Waste Minimisation team and will help transform our plans into action.

Ōu wheako – about you

To be successful in this role, you will:

  • Have effective written and oral communication skills, ideally including experience writing and editing copy for marketing and communications channels.
  • Have excellent organisational skills or project management experience
  • Have experience in event organisation or facilitating behaviour change programmes would be an advantage.
  • Be able to build effective and strong relationships both internally and externally with a diverse range of people
  • Have knowledge of resource recovery and waste minimisation.
  • Share a passion for sustainability, the environment, and sharing this knowledge with others.
  • Be self-motivated and able to work in a team environment.
