Hastings District Council has a fantastic opportunity for a forward thinking, high performing individual to join one of our essential services undertaken by Council.  We are seeking applications for a permanent full-time Team Leader Animal Control.  This position is responsible for leading and managing the Animal Control team, enabling the team to deliver key results.

The Animal Control team promotes better care and control of dogs by providing public education within schools and community groups, responding to dog control complaints, maintaining pound facilities and enforcing the Dog Control Act and Animal Control Bylaws.

This role will suit a qualified animal control professional who has knowledge and experience of enforcement and compliance, and applicable legislation in a local government environment. Excellent communication skills are required for this position to ensure strong advocacy within the community and public safety is upheld.  Experience in successfully dealing with conflict situations to come to a resolution between affected parties is also essential.

To be successful in this role, you will:

• Experience as an Animal Control Officer is highly desirable.
• Proven ability to lead a successful team with strong communication and conflict resolution skills, including managing difficult or confrontational situations.
• Investigation skills, knowledge of legislation, report writing experience, and budget management expertise.
• Confidence in handling aggressive dogs, stock, and other animals, with a demonstrated capability in animal handling.
• Strong decision-making skills, ensuring community interests are met while maintaining consistency with legislation.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other software, with a full clean NZ driver’s license (and able to drive manual)
