Hastings District Council has a fantastic opportunity for a customer friendly investigator to join one of our essential services undertaken by Council. We are seeking applications for an Animal Control Officer. This position is responsible for providing quality customer service, investigating animal control complaints, handling animals and educating the public.
This role will suit a professional who has knowledge and experience of regulation and compliance, and applicable legislation in a local government environment. Excellent communication skills are required for this position to ensure strong advocacy within the community and public safety is upheld. Experience in successfully dealing with conflict situations to come to a resolution between affected parties is also essential.

To be successful in this role you will have:
- Ideally, previous experience as an Animal Control Officer or working in a regulatory environment - this is not essential though.
- Great communication and conflict resolution skills.
- The ability to deal with difficult potentially confrontational situations.
- Investigation skills, experience with legislation.
- Experience and confidence in handling aggressive dogs and stock.
- Ability to make sound decisions which are in the best interests of the community, whilst demonstrating consistency and compliance with legislation.
- Ability to think on your feet and resolve situations when they arise.
- Skills in Microsoft Office and other software.
- A full clean NZ driving licence.
