Taitara Mahi - Senior Animal Control Officer

Hastings District Council's Animal Control team promotes better care and control of dogs by providing public education within schools and community groups, responding to dog control complaints, maintaining pound facilities and enforcing the Dog Control Act and Animal Control Bylaws.
As part of our team of seven, the Senior Animal Control Officer supports the Animal Control Team Leader by taking a lead role in complex investigations, mentoring junior officers, and ensuring day-to-day operations run smoothly. This includes managing serious dog incidents, assisting with prosecutions, and helping to develop and deliver educational initiatives that promote responsible dog ownership across the district.

To be successful in this role you will have:
- Proven experience in an Animal Control environment
- Experience in leadership and development of staff
- Strong dispute resolution and customer service skills
- Proven animal handling skills and a knowledge of animal behaviour and husbandry
