Taitara Mahi – Learning & Discovery Librarian

Hastings District Libraries is looking for an enthusiastic and highly organised individual to join our Learning and Discovery team. This is a Tuesday to Saturday role, working across our three library facilities.

As a Learning and Discovery Librarian, you’ll be part of a dynamic team responsible for developing and delivering programmes, activities, and events that cater to our diverse community—from babies to seniors, with a focus on adults and digital programming. While planning and coordination is a key part of this role, we’re looking for someone who’s confident and outgoing, with a flair for engaging with groups. Whether it’s storytelling for children, dancing with babies, running our legendary Nerf Wars, or chatting about books and tech with keen readers, you’ll bring energy and creativity to everything you do.

To be successful in this role you will have:

• Strong organisational and planning skills, with the ability to meet deadlines.
• Excellent customer service experience, working with a wide range of customers, from children to older adults
• Confidence in public speaking and group engagement.
• A genuine interest in working with people from all walks of life in a vibrant, fast-paced environment.
• A professional library qualification would be beneficial – but is not essential
