Taitara Mahi - Project Accountant
Permanent Full-Time

As a Project Accountant within the Programme Delivery Office, you will play a critical role in ensuring the financial integrity, transparency, and performance of infrastructure projects. You’ll play a key role in ensuring financial visibility, accuracy, and control across a diverse portfolio of transport and 3 waters projects. From budget tracking and forecasting to funding compliance and reporting, you’ll help project teams deliver great physical and financial outcomes.

This role is all about connecting the dots—aligning financial data with delivery milestones, funding agreements (NZTA, NIFF), and strategic goals. You’ll support informed decision-making, ensure transparency for governance and funders, and help keep projects on track.

If you thrive on detail, enjoy working across teams, and want to be part of a high-performing office that’s redefining how infrastructure is delivered—this is your opportunity.

Ōu wheako – about you
To be successful in this role you will have:

  • A recognised accounting qualification and membership with CAANZ (or equivalent).
  • Proven experience in accounting—ideally within a construction or infrastructure environment.
  • Strong skills in budgeting, financial reporting, and managing fixed asset registers.
  • Solid understanding of statutory requirements including PBE and GAAP standards.
  • Confidence working with senior leaders and project teams to drive financial performance and improvement initiatives.
  • Experience using large financial systems and project management tools to track and report on budgets.
  • Bonus: Exposure to business intelligence tools and data-driven reporting.

This role is perfect for someone who thrives on detail, enjoys working across multidisciplinary teams, and wants to be part of a high-performing Programme Delivery Office that’s reshaping how infrastructure is delivered.
This role is part of the Finance Group, but lives within the Infrastructure Group - The Infrastructure Group includes 3 Waters, Transportation, a Delivery Office and a Professional Services Panel.

Situated in the heart of Ngāti Kahungunu, the Hastings district and Hawke’s Bay offer an enjoyable environment in which to live, work and play. We are an equal opportunity employer and we value diversity. Are you keen to be a part of our journey?
