Taitara Mahi - Animal Welfare Kennel Officer

Hastings District Council’s Animal Control team has a strong focus on education, professionalism, and quality customer service. To support our team, we’re looking for a motivated and reliable individual to join us as an Animal Welfare Kennel Officer.
In this role, you’ll assist with the daily operations of the Animal Welfare Centre, including the care and assessment of impounded animals, coordinating adoptions, supporting public education initiatives, and providing practical assistance to the Animal Control team. You’ll find real satisfaction in helping improve outcomes for both animals and the community, but the role also requires resilience and professionalism when faced with tough or emotional situations.

To be successful in this role you will:
- Have excellent customer service skills, able to work with difficult and potentially confrontational customers.
- Have experience and/or qualifications in animal welfare or a related field.
- Be a team player, able to think laterally and problem solve.
- Hold a current full NZ Driver Licence.
